Korg Kaossillator
The Korg Kaossilator is an amazing little device.
It’s used by pros and bros alike and is well known across the electronic music world.
What IT is, is a pocket sized “digital phrase synthesizer”. Now all that means is that you move your finger on the pad and you make sounds.
Simple enough! Already sounds like loads of fun.
For the more technical explanation: instead of having a set of keys, you have a square pad with an X-Y axis to adjust and manipulate your sounds. There is a knob to change the type of sound you’re looking for and the ability to record and loop and repeat, allowing for a full fledged composition if you so desire. Or something close anyway.
Now this device will run around 150 american dollars, not bad considering it delivers a professional quality out put for the studio, the stage and, of course, the bedroom.
It has a brother of sorts, called the Mini KP, which - as opposed to being a straight ‘creator’ like the Kaossilator - is a manipulator of sounds. It has tons of filters and effects that add spice to your itunes library or even your Kaossilator if you so choose, anything with a way of outputting sound would work. It runs a bit cheaper at 120 bucks.
Whether you want to remix your the contents of your ipod or become the next Justice-like musical act, this device is the most perfect launching pad for your silly pipe dreams.
